The number of burglaries runs parallel to the RIVM's easing. Now that measures against the Coronavirus have been relaxed, burglary rates are rising again. The relaxations mean more Dutch people are going to work. Burglars see their chances rising again. The number of residential burglaries is almost back to normal levels, new figures from the Police and the Insurers' Association show.<\/p>\n

The total number of residential burglaries in the lockdown period (from March to the end of June) came to 6951. This is 37% less than the same period in 2019. In the first week of July, burglars struck 510 times. This is only 60x less than the same period last year. Police expect the figures to continue to rise. What plays into this expectation is the fact that the borders are opening again. Gangs from abroad can strike again more easily.<\/p>\n

During the holiday period, burglary rates always shoot up. Burglars simply do not go on holiday. Mr Staal, chairman of the National Burglary Prevention Weeks Foundation, even expects a real catch-up. Thieves did not receive any compensation from the government, so they have to get back on the job. The holiday period is perfect for this. Therefore, be alert and watch each other's homes and businesses.<\/p>\n
